True Art Nouveau French Figural Vase. Embellished with three fully nude female nymph figures and a cupid playing a tambourine. Signed in the mold’J. See Below for description of artist. Was a 19th-century French sculptor best known for his bronze figures and decorative vessels. Throughout his work, he often depicted allegorical and historical subjects… Garnier created vases or pitchers that merged with figural forms, where one or more characters appear to be emerging from the surface of the vessel. Born in 1853 in Mouzeuil, France, Garnier would go on to exhibit at the Salon des Artiste Francaise, winning an honorable mention in 1892. The artist died in 1910 in Paris, France. See their website for other works by Jean Garnier. Vase metal appears to be spelter (A zinc based casting metal). Insert is fixed in vase. Insert appears original and is a deep copper/bronze color. Vase is heavy, weighing approximately 18 pounds. CONDITION: The applied faux Verde patina is worn in some areas, probably due to incorrect cleaning.
